ASKO Dryer Not Heating Evenly? Understanding Why

Full guide

What to check before you call

Safe observations first. Stop if anything involves smoke, gas, water near electricity, or a panel you would need to remove.

08 sections

When an ASKO dryer leaves part of a load damp while the rest is dry, the cause is usually how the load tumbles and how air passes through it, rather than a heating failure. Check the load size, separate heavy items from light ones, and clean every filter your manual lists. If a normal-sized, mixed load still comes out inconsistent, or the dryer shows no heat at all, book a diagnosis.

A tumble dryer that dries unevenly can be frustrating, especially when it interrupts a normal household routine. A symptom alone does not identify a failed part, so start with observations that are safe, repeatable, and useful if you later arrange an ASKO service visit.

This guide separates routine care from work that requires testing or disassembly. Do not bypass a lock, safety switch, or error message to keep an appliance running. Taking a few notes now can make the eventual diagnosis faster and more accurate.

Start with the simple conditions

Preheat fully, use a center rack where the recipe allows, and avoid oversized pans or crowded trays that block airflow. Make the check with the appliance in its normal position and without forcing panels, fittings, or controls. If the result changes after a simple adjustment, run one normal cycle or operation before drawing a conclusion.

Results that differ only with one recipe may be a technique issue, while one side consistently undercooking can justify a temperature diagnosis. Look for a pattern: whether the issue happens every time, only with a particular load or setting, or after the appliance has been running for a while. That distinction is more valuable than repeatedly restarting the appliance.

Result Likely cause Safe check
Uneven browning Crowded airflow Use one centered tray
Slow baking Not fully preheated Wait for ready signal
Large temperature gap Sensor or element Book testing

Uneven drying versus no drying

These two complaints sound similar but point in different directions. Uneven drying means heat and airflow are present but not reaching everything. No drying at all, with a cool drum, means the heat is not being produced or controlled properly. Only the first is something an owner can influence.

Compared side by side

What you notice What it can point to What the check tells you
Towels or jeans damp in the seams, light items dry Heavy items shielding each other from airflow Splitting the load usually shows whether it was loading
A ball of laundry in the centre is damp Items tangled or wrapped around one another Shaking out items between cycles shows the effect
Damp on every cycle regardless of load Lint restriction or restricted exhaust Cleaning filters and checking the visible duct narrows it
Drum stays cool throughout Heating or control component Stop and book; there is nothing safe to adjust

Safe checks that protect the appliance

Consult the use-and-care manual for model-specific controls, filter access, and maintenance intervals. Clean only parts described as user-serviceable, use the recommended cleaning products, and refit every removable part exactly as it was designed to sit.

Before trying another cycle, clear obstructions, reduce an unusually heavy load, and make sure airflow, water supply, or door clearance is not being restricted. Avoid repeated resets: they can hide an intermittent fault and may leave water, heat, or pressure where it should not be.

  • Record any displayed message or error code before clearing it.
  • Check visible hoses, vents, seals, and plugs without moving electrical connections.
  • Use one controlled test rather than several back-to-back attempts.

Safe to try

  • Adjust rack position
  • Use correct cooking mode
  • Preheat fully

Leave to a technician

  • Remove heating elements
  • Test live voltage
  • Force the door latch

How ASKO dryers decide when laundry is dry

The ASKO brochure says Sensi Dry automatically determines the drying time and stops the program when the clothes are dry. That is helpful but has a consequence: a sensor reads the load as a whole, so a mixed load with a few dense items can end the program before every item is dry. If your manual describes a drying-level option, it is the documented way to adjust this.

The filter system and why every part counts

The brochure describes a Multi Filter System with up to five filters, depending on model, including a mesh filter, a Lint Trap in the door and a foam filter. It says lint leads to longer drying times. On heat pump models the foam filter can be washed in a washing machine without detergent or softener, and the mesh filter is cleaned automatically with water. The cleaning guide separately says condenser models need the condenser cleaned every 3 to 6 months. A filter that looks clean from the front can still hold lint where it is not easy to see, so work through all the parts the manual names.

What a better result does and does not prove

If splitting a load fixes the problem, the dryer was working as designed and the load was the issue. If cleaning every filter changes the result, lint was the cause. If neither helps, do not keep experimenting; the cause lies in the dryer or its venting.

Know when the symptom needs diagnosis

If the basic checks do not change the symptom, stop at the user-serviceable boundary. Internal wiring, heating circuits, pumps, motors, refrigerant lines, gas connections, and control boards need the correct test equipment and a technician who can verify the repair safely.

Arrange service promptly when performance is getting worse, the appliance trips a breaker, leaks near electrical parts, smells hot or burnt, makes a new grinding noise, or cannot complete a normal cycle. Do not continue operating an appliance that gives a safety warning.

What to tell the technician

Share the model number, the exact symptom, when it began, what settings were selected, and the results of the safe checks above. A photo of a code or a short description of the sound can also help, but never remove a cover to obtain it.

Careful observation is not a substitute for repair, but it is the best first step. Address the simple conditions, preserve any useful error information, and leave electrical, gas, sealed-system, and internal mechanical work to a qualified ASKO technician.

Common questions

Why do some items dry faster than others in the same load?

Fabric weight, thickness and how freely items tumble all affect drying. Dense items hold moisture longer, so mixing them with light items can leave them damp.

Does a heat pump dryer dry differently from a vented one?

The brochure describes heat pump dryers as closed systems recirculating process air. Drying behavior and filter care can differ, so check the manual for your model.

Should I rerun the cycle for damp items?

One further cycle with the load loosened is a reasonable test. If the same items stay damp again, stop and book a diagnosis.

Official manuals and support notes are available on ASKO Support.

Write down the full model number before ordering parts. Board and sensor revisions can change which part number is correct.

A single power reset can clear a temporary fault, but repeated returns of the same code usually mean a physical cause remains.

Keep vents and filters clear between visits. Restricted airflow often mimics electrical or sensor failures.

If water, burning smells, or sparking are present, stop using the appliance and arrange a professional inspection.
